As a mother of 2 great kids in the dual language program at Steeple Run Elementary, I’m honored to have the opportunity to ask for your vote to serve on the Naperville School Board, representing District 203. My involvement as President of Home and School at Ann Reid Early Education Center cemented my confidence that Naperville School District is one of the finest in the country, not only for its current strength, but also for its potential to serve as a model for innovation and emerging diversity. As the daughter of a Cuban immigrant, I am deeply committed to helping develop the district’s evolving demographics fortify the experience for all of our students.
Professionally, I am currently a project manager for a global legal consulting firm, after having a career as both a prosecutor and public defender in South Florida. Having spent time as a student, in school districts in suburban regions of Florida, and rural areas of North Carolina, I completed my undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University, and law school at St. Thomas University School of Law, in Miami.
My understanding that education is the great equalizer, is something I came to realize at an early age. I grew up in a family situation that would be considered at risk. I knew education was the way for me to reach my potential, and move past the circumstances I was born into. On a national level our system has failed many kids in this regard. Our school district is equipped with the tools necessary to make this fundamental ideal today’s truth. With the changing demographic in our district, it is imperative that we stay ahead of the curve ensuring we remain one of the best school districts in the country.
